All abstracts submitted for the 14th ICPA have been reviewed and notification emails have been sent to the corresponding authors of each submission. Logging in to the ispag.org/abstracts website will also display a list of the submissions associated with your account and list their status. Keynote Speakers Announced for 14th ICPA
Chris Paterson
Chris Paterson leads the Bayer CropScience Digital Farming initiative (XARVIO.com) in North America, and resides in Calgary, Alberta. Chris has been involved with agronomy and agribusiness across North America for 25 years, and for the past 10 years has been directly involved with the development of business applications around emerging technologies that generate, or consume farm data. The Digital Farming team that Chris leads has technical competencies in agronomy, data science, IT, and precision Ag technologies. Together with colleagues from South America and Europe, the team has been able to rapidly evolve from recruitment of the right people, to raw ideation and conceptualizing, through product development and ground truthing, to full commercialization and revenue generation in 3 years. Because Bayer Digital Farming has an approach to the market that focuses on collaboration with other companies, his team has involvement with a broad spectrum of companies and technologies including farm data management platforms, equipment sensors, weather and imagery sensors, robotics, artificial intelligence, wireless mobile connectivity, etc. Chris will introduce some trends that are driving (or preventing) adoption of precision ag and farm data technologies on North American farms, show some potentially disruptive technologies to watch for, and reveal where Bayer Digital Farming thinks their opportunity is emerging.Chris Paterson's participation is possible due to a sponsorship from Bayer-Canada.
Yoshua Bengio
Dr. Yoshua Bengio (computer science, 1991, McGill U; post-docs at MIT and Bell Labs) is Professor at the University of Montreal since 1993, department of computer science and operations research. He is scientific director of MILA (Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms, currently the largest academic research group on deep learning) and IVADO (Institute for data valorization). Yoshua Bengio is Canada Research Chair in Statistical Learning Algorithms. He authored three books and over 300 publications (h-index over 100), mostly in deep learning. He holds a Canada Research Chair in Statistical Learning Algorithms, is Officer of the Order of Canada, recipient of the Marie-Victorin Quebec Prize 2017, he is a CIFAR Senior Fellow and co-directs its Learning in Machines and Brains program. He is on the NIPS foundation board (previously program chair and general chair) and co-created the ICLR conference (specialized in deep learning). He pioneered deep learning and his goal is to uncover the principles giving rise to intelligence through learning, as well as contribute to the development of AI for the benefit of all. He was just named scientist of the year in Canada for his research that revolutionized and deepened our knowledge of artificial intelligence, and his initiatives that made Montreal a hub in the sector.
Dr. Bengio's participation is possible due to a partnership with MILA.
2024 ICPA Awards
Know a graduate student or outstanding scientist? Nominate them for the ISPA Outstanding Graduate Student Award or the ISPA Pierre C. Robert Precision Agriculture Award. Nomination submissions are due 16 APRIL 2024.
Brief descriptions of the awards in different categories are listed below:
Pierre C. Robert Precision Agriculture Award(s)
The Pierre C. Robert Precision Agriculture Award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to precision agriculture science and technology and who are presenting an oral or poster paper at the conference. Two awards will be given in this category to a Young and Senior Scientist/Professional. The young scientist/professional must be 42 or younger; the senior scientist/professional over 42. Senior scientists/professionals must have 20 or more years of experience the majority of which must be in the area of precision agriculture. The nominee must be an active member of ISPA. The selected candidates will be honored during the conference award ceremony with a Plaque of Achievement and US$1000 cash award.

The entire nomination package must be submitted as one pdf file, in an e-mail attachment. Nomination submissions are due on or before 16 APRIL 2024 to the Chair of the ICPA Awards Committee, awards@ispag.org. Questions related to the awards nomination must also be addressed to awards@ispag.org.
ISPA Outstanding Graduate Student Awards
The purpose of this award is to recognize graduate student achievement, training, preparation and research in the area of precision agriculture.
Up to 10 awards will be made to graduate students presenting their research work (oral or poster paper) at the 16th ICPA conference. The award will consist of waived conference registration fees and US$500 cash award. The selected candidates will be honored during the conference award ceremony.
The award is administered by the Award Committee of the International Society of Precision Agriculture.

The entire nomination package must be submitted as one pdf file, in an e-mail attachment. Nomination submissions are due on or before 16 APRIL 2024 to the Chair of the ICPA Awards Committee, awards@ispag.org. Questions related to the awards nomination must also be addressed to awards@ispag.org.
The OECD Global Science Forum (GSF) and the World Data System (WDS) partnered on a project to inform policies to promote open data for science focused on internationally coordinated data networks. The overall aim was to identify principles and policy actions that can enable the establishment and maintenance of effective international data networks that are necessary to support a global open science enterprise.
The hard part of transitioning to data-driven decisions isn’t when the data supports what you already believe to be true. The difficult part is when the data analysis challenges what we think we already know.
The Global Soil Partnership (GSP) and the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS) launched a global endeavor to develop the Global Soil Organic Carbon map (GSOCmap) using a country-driven approach as part of the Global Soil Information System (GLOSIS). GSP provided technical support and on-the-job training to most countries to produce national SOC maps according to standardized specifications. The Global Soil Organic Carbon map V1.0 is an important stepping stone to better know the current Soil Organic Carbon stock stored beneath our feet and soils’ potential for further sequestration. The data are also available as Geotiff.
