Position description:  
The Precision Agriculture Center at the Department of Soil, Water and Climate, University of Minnesota is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position with research focus on applications of proximal, UAV and satellite remote sensing, crop growth modeling, and machine learning for crop stress diagnosis, precision nutrient management, precision water management and integrated precision crop management.  The Postdoc Associate is expected to assist in proposal writing, conduct on-farm research, prepare progress report, present research findings at local, national and international conferences, and publish peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals. This position is a three-year appointment, with annual review and renewal. The salary will be in the range of $48,246 – $54,000 plus fringe benefits depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. The starting date is Jan. 1, 2021 or as early as a suitable candidate is found. 
 
Qualifications:
Required:
  • A Ph.D. in Agronomy, Soil Science, Agricultural or Biosystems Engineering;
  • Experience and proficiency in remote sensing image analysis, UAV operation, image processing and analysis, proximal and remote sensing for crop and soil mapping;
Preferred:
  • Strong statistical and machine learning analysis skills, with demonstrated programming skills in Python and/or R;
  • Demonstrated scientific writing proficiency, with first author publication records in refereed journals related to precision agriculture, remote sensing or nutrient management;
  • Being able to work independently and assist in leading an international and interdisciplinary research team;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Experience in crop growth modeling is a plus;
  • Experience in thermal remote sensing and data analysis is a plus.
