News About the Spanish National Association for Precision Agriculture

On October 30th, the Spanish National Association for Precision Agriculture (Asociación Nacional de Agricultura de Precisión, ANAP) held its inaugural Annual Technical Seminar in conjunction with its first General Assembly of Members. Both events were hosted at the School of Agronomic Engineering of the University of Seville by Manuel Pérez (current ISPA Secretary) and his team, including Pedro Castro and María Barrera, among others.

The seminar was officially opened by a representative of the Junta de Andalucía, Jesús Gonzélez García, and the Director of the School, Luís Pérez Urrestarazu. The program featured an introductory presentation by Àlex Escolà on ANAP, followed by a presentation on the FIMA technical fair by Fernando Cidraque.

Technical sessions covered a range of topics, including precision seeding technologies, sensor-based irrigation management, UAV-assisted pesticide application, artificial intelligence applications in agriculture, agricultural robotics and early detection of plant diseases (refer to the official agenda for full details). The seminar attracted over 80 participants, who actively contributed to the final panel discussion with the speakers.

Following the lunch break, ANAP convened its first General Assembly of Members, during which the new Board of Directors was elected. The newly appointed board comprises:
  • President: Manuel Pérez Ruiz (current ISPA Secretary)
  • Vice President: Ana I. de Castro Megías
  • Secretary: Francisco Javier García Ramos
  • Treasurer: José Manuel Peña Barragán
  • Committee Members: Constantino Valero Ubierna, Àlex Escolà Agustí, and Carlos Martín Esteban
The new Board expressed its gratitude to the outgoing leadership—José María Terrón López (former President), Carlos Martín Esteban (former Secretary), and José María Montull (former Treasurer)—for their foundational work in establishing ANAP and promoting Precision Agriculture within Spain’s primary sector.

Precision Agriculture Incubation Program (PAIP): Growing the Next Generation of Digital & Precision Agriculture Leaders in Africa
Femi Adekoya, Founder & Director, Integrated Aerial Precision & Precision Field Academy; ISPA Country Representative in Nigeria, AAPA West Africa Board Member

The Precision Agriculture Incubation Program (PAIP) is an initiative of Precision Field Academy (PFA) designed to equip young Africans with the technical and soft skills required to lead the continent’s digital agriculture transformation.

With the endorsement and continued support of the International Society for Precision Agriculture (ISPA), the recently concluded Cohort 3 engaged over 2,500 participants from 15 African countries through global masterclasses on drone technology, GIS and remote sensing, AI for crop diagnostics, and IoT-enabled smart farming.

The top 90 participants advanced to intensive field sessions hosted at three regional hubs—Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Federal University of Technology (FUT Minna), and Rivers State University—where they conducted hands-on drone flights, digital mapping, and data-driven decision-making exercises.

Following the program, the Academy launched the Precision Agriculture Ambassadorship Program (PAAP) in partnership with Integrated Aerial Precision (IAPrecision), enabling graduates to serve as farmer-facing technology ambassadors, applying digital tools and precision agriculture techniques directly within African farming communities.

Through PAIP, PFA is bridging skill gaps, inspiring youth employment, and building Africa’s next generation of AgriTech innovators putting precision agriculture into action and driving sustainable food systems.
